WHAT IS TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a powerful system of health, originating from China thousands of years ago, and now practiced all over the world. TCM treatment focuses on the underlying or ‘root cause’ of disease and uses different types of healing modalities to stimulate the body’s self-healing capabilities. TCM’s ability to promote healthy bodily function means that it is often used as one of the most effective forms of preventive medicine.

Does it hurt?

Although some areas of the body may be more sensitive than others, most points you will not feel. I use high-grade single use superfine needles (0.16mm) and I am more than happy to take it extra slow. It's very common to feel nervous about pins, most people are surprised about how gentle it is.
Some sensations are commonly felt; tingling, throbbing, and pleasant calming effects.

Do I undress?

There are hundreds of acupuncture points on the body. If you prefer to stay clothed, points on the hands and feet can be used. The goal is for you to feel comfortable and relaxed.

Do I need to bring anything?

I commonly use gua sha and cupping in my sessions. It’s good to have weather-appropriate clothing for after the session as the pores of the skin are open and vulnerable to wind and cold. I’d recommend a jacket and scarf.
Any investigations, blood tests and scans are very useful and can be brought or emailed before your appointment.
