Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture
What is facial acupuncture?
Facial Acupuncture, also known as cosmetic acupunture, has a rich history in Chinese Medicine, with reference texts dating back as far as 1121 BCE. It’s a cosmetic-focused and personalised treatment for those who are concerned about the signs of premature aging that can affect the muscles, soft tissue and skin of the face.
Don't worry - the needles we use are TINY - 0.10-0.16 gauge - for your reference around 15 acupuncture needles to fit into a hypodermic needle (a needle that draws blood). These needles are placed into the skin on specific points and meridians on the face and body.
Why do we needle the body in Facial Acupuncture?
Chinese Medicine uses meridians that effect all parts of the body. Not only does using points on the body ground the qi, but it works on the underlying or ‘root’ concerns that may be affecting aspects of our face. By treating the body we are also working on the vital substances - these being Qi, Blood and Body Fluids.
Here are some of the organs and their relationship with the face;

3. Facial cupping and gua sha. After needle removal facial cupping and gua sha will be applied.
Facial cupping aims to smooth fine lines, relaxes tight muscles; move out stagnant lymph, fluids and toxins; the face will appear tighter and toned and the lymphatic system of the face and neck will function significantly better, movement of inflammation and rosacea; strengthens the vascular integrity of the face. Facial cupping also increases fibroblast activity that thickens the skin and creates a move youthful state - repairs slackening skin.
Gua sha is “skin scraping” Gua- to scrape- and sha - aka Petechie -the colouration that often presents when using the technique on the common neck, back, rib area. This has incredible effects on pain, immunity, cold and flu - but I will elaborate on that in another article. Technically as Facial Gua Sha doesn’t bring up Sha its more of a skin massage But I will use the term here as it is commonly used.
Facial Gua sha helps with deep wrinkles; sagging, facial discoloration, and under eye puffiness, detoxifies the face, is great for rosacea , beneficial for lip wrinkles, crows feet, nasolabial fold and forehead lines. Gua Sha does this by increasing the microcirculation of tissue by 400% - this means there is 4 times the amount of blood and nutrients reaching the surface of the skin. More research needs to be done - but after experiencing it first hand, you will notice the effects.
4. Explanation of home care routine
Individualised advice to help achieve your outcomes will be discussed including dietary and lifestyle recommendations.
How many treatments will I need?
This will depend on age, genes, desired outcome, lifestyle,diet, sun exposure and a variety of factors. Whilst the majority of clients feel and see some effect after the first session, I recommend 6-12 weekly sessions for optimal results. Then, as you would with hair, gym, eyebrows etc, fortnightly or monthly maintenance appointments. The treatment effects can also be extended with home maintenance Gua Sha, Cupping and Dermal rolling - which I can explain in your first session.
